Greg Holfeld has worked in the screen and publishing industry for over 35 years as an animator, director, illustrator, storyboard artist, art director, instructor, designer and – during an early low point in his career – as a beret-wearing caricature artist in a Tokyo shopping centre.
Greg started his career in Vancouver as an assistant animator on the oh-so-very Canadian Tales of the Mouse Hockey League, and thereafter provided animation for numerous television shows of the 80s and 90s; from the obscure Ovide and the Gang to the notorious Ren and Stimpy. He is also likely to be responsible for directing and animating the commercials for cereal and confectionary that ruined your childhood eating habits.
His recent storyboard work includes Mortal Kombat, Wolf Like Me, Kitty is Not a Kat, and Eddie’s Little Homies. Greg has also created a number of independent short films which have been screened and awarded in festivals the world over. His most recent film, Pinchpot, received the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) award for Best Short Animation.
He is the illustrator of dozens of children’s books and is the co-creator of the Captain Congo graphic novel series and the acclaimed An Anzac Tale. Currently you’ll find his comics in
The School Magazine, with new adventures of Captain Congo and the all-ages antics of Monkey, Bug, Rabbit and Goose!
When not drawing something, you’ll find Greg working in his garden, not wearing a beret.
