Steven Paulsen is an award-winning speculative fiction writer and editor. His bestselling spooky children’s book, The Stray Cat (Lothian/Hachette), illustrated by Hugo and Oscar Award winning artist Shaun Tan, has seen publication in several English and foreign language editions.
His horror, science fiction and dark fantasy short stories, which Isobelle Carmody describes as beautifully written and subtle, have appeared in books and magazines in around the world. The best of his weird tales can be found in his short story collection, Shadows on the Wall (IFWG Publishing, 2018), which won the Australian Horror Writers Association Shadows Award for Best Collected Work.
Steven has also written extensively about Australian horror and fantasy for numerous publications including: The Encyclopedia of Fantasy; The St James Guide to Horror, Ghost and Gothic Writers; Bloodsongs; Aurealis; The Melbourne University Publishing Encyclopaedia of Australian Science Fiction and Fantasy; and The Scream Factory.
His exciting YA Historical Fantasy novel, Dream Weaver, set in 15th century Ottoman Turkey, was released by IFWG Publishing in 2023. Most recently, he has coedited Nosferatu Unbound with Christopher Sequeira; a powerful collection of fiction by some of the best voices in contemporary horror inspired by F. W. Murnau’s masterpiece of German Expressionist cinema Nosferatu.
