Jujutsu Kaisen 0 invites you back to Jujutsu High for the prequel film to the hit anime series! Following the character Okkotsu Yuta and his struggles with entering the jujutsu world, this film is a perfect balance of new characters appearing on the big screen and fan favourites returning.
Yuta and Rika are front and centre of a heart-wrenching story that focuses on the importance and strength of friendship and love. However, it is important to note that the film can be enjoyed by those who have not seen the anime series. The film is set before the introduction of key protagonist Yuuji Itadori, and sheds some light into the past of the other students he encounters during the series.
Being thrown into a world you know nothing about is never easy, and throughout the film you learn more and more as Yuta does. The characterisation is acted out perfectly, pacing itself in a manner that keeps you intrigued the entire way through the film, without feeling like the action is happening too fast. Developing strong friendships with Maki, Panda and Inumaki, fellow Jujutsu High first years, the film weaves Yuta into the narrative fans know and love seamlessly, delving into never-before-seen moments and providing deeper insights into the overarching story.
The film delivers some of the best combat scenes seen in the franchise, and successfully shows off the techniques of the star characters. The art style is also stunning and captivating, with bursts of colour and perfectly timed pauses and movements. Each combat scene is sure to have you gripping the edge of your seat as you cheer your favourites on, waiting eagerly to see if good will prevail over evil. The final battle is particularly spectacular, and transitions from each character’s battles to constantly keep you wondering what exactly is going to happen next. Along with the twists and turns, it’s definitely a wild ride for everyone.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is sure to be a hit among all anime lovers, regardless of whether they are a present fan of the franchise. From intense action scenes to emotional and heartfelt moments, JJK0 tugs on your heartstrings to make you fall in love with the titular character of the film, Yuta. Without spoiling anything of course, the film has set itself up to meld into the next season of Jujutsu Kaisen, and is sure to leave everyone excited and waiting to see what exactly will happen next with Yuta and how he fits into the world with Itadori.
The Jujutsu Kaisen series is currently streaming via Crunchyroll, which earlier this month announced subscribers would have access to previously exclusive libraries and simulcast content, with Funimation unifying under the Crunchyroll brand. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is now screening in more than 150 cinemas across Australia, with cinema locations and tickets available online now.
