Voice acting legend and “Supa-Star” Troy Baker has made massive waves in the scene in recent years, from his brilliant turn as Joel in The Last Of Us to his pitch-perfect Joker across the Arkham games and the DC Animated Universe.
With appearances in Bioshock Infinite, Shadow Of Mordor, Uncharted 4 and Final Fantasy, Baker is video game royalty, but did you also know that he voiced these unexpected characters?
Pain & Yamato, Naruto Shuppūden
Baker played an important part of Naruto’s Pain Arc, voicing both Yamato and Pain himself throughout the story and across the Ultimate Ninja Storm games. While he was eventually replaced by fellow voice actor Matthew Mercer, it was Baker who voiced Yamato and Pain throughout the bulk of the series.
Loki & Hawkeye, Avengers Assemble
Baker has been a regular voice actor for Marvel’s long-running animated series since it began in 2013, voicing everyone from Hawkeye to Loki, and even appearing as Kraven in Spider-Man’s newest animated outing. Since voicing these characters in the animated Avengers Assemble, he’s gone on to reprise the roles in the Guardians Of The Galaxy animated series, Hulk And The Agents of S.M.A.S.H. and even in popular video game series Disney Infinity.
The President of the United States of America, Saints Row IV
In Saints Row IV, you can choose and customise your President whichever way you like, and a variety of voice actors are available to provide their voice to your character. Troy Baker, along with Laura Bailey and Nolan North, all provide options for voices, and if you chose voice Male #1, you would’ve had Troy Baker guiding you on your way through the presidency.
Frank Archer, Fullmetal Alchemist
Frank Archer, one of the antagonists in the original Fullmetal Alchemist series, is another of Baker’s more obscure roles, as it was among his first forays into anime voice acting. Archer appeared in the latter half of the show, introduced as a replacement to Mae Hughes. Baker’s role in the original Fullmetal Alchemist led to him taking on the role of the second Greed in the later 2009 series.
Dr. Reuben Langer, Regular Show
Dr. Langer is a regular guest star on Regular Show, a scientist who aided the creation of the park dome. While he initially had nefarious goals in mind, he’s soon revealed as on office of Space Tree Intergalactic Official, whose task is to prepare Pops as the Chosen One for a battle against his brother, Anti-Pops. Baker voiced the character across all of his various appearances.
Jason Todd / Arkham Knight, Tim Drake / Robin & Harvey Dent / Two-Face, Batman: Arkham Games
While Baker has become known as a brilliant Joker since his appearance in Batman: Arkham Origins, his history with the franchise runs much deeper. His first appearances came in Arkham City, where he voiced both Tim Drake and Harvey Dent. In the latest release, Baker reprised his role as Dent, but also took on the role of the Arkham Knight, aka Jason Todd. With his voice disguised by a modulator for the majority of his appearances, this one was a hard pick!
Troy Baker will appear at Supanova Comic Con & Gaming Sydney (15-17 June) and Perth (23-24 June).
