Too busy to keep track of all the big film and TV buzz that dropped this month? For the shortest month of the year, there was certainly a lot of news to be had. Don’t worry if you missed it though, we’ve got you covered with another wrap-up of all the hot goss from both the big and small screens alike.
Scooby-Doo
HBOMax revealed a larger adult animation slate this month, amongst which was the news that the Scooby-Doo sleuth Velma will be getting her own spin-off show covering her character’s origins. Voiced by The Office’s Mindy Kaling, this 10-episode series will also be co-produced by WB Animation and Cartoon Network president Sam Register.
The Last of Us
Another upcoming HBOMax series is the highly anticipated live-action adaptation of The Last of Us video game. Recent casting announcements have revealed The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal as Joel, and his former Game of Thrones co-star Bella Ramsey as Ellie.

Marvel
After some deliberate online trolling by Spider-Man stars Tom Holland, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, we now have the official Spider-Man 3 title – Spider-Man: No Way Home. This latest Spidey outing is set for a December release.

With WandaVision currently tearing up streaming viewership records, the MCU is ready to continue their massive 2021 line-up with the March 19 release of The Falcon and Winter Soldier. The new trailer that dropped earlier this month promises more rivalry between Captain America’s two BFFs, Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes.
Also on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, War Machine actor Don Cheadle has recently revealed in a podcast that his character, James Rhodes, will make an appearance in the series before helming his own Armor Wars spinoff.
Wakanda forever! Disney has reportedly signed Black Panther director Ryan Coogler on for an exclusive five-year development deal for him to work on television projects for Disney+. As part of that deal are plans for him to lead a new MCU series connected to the Black Panther films and set in the fictional kingdom of Wakanda.
DC
With only a few weeks left before the Snyder Cut gets released in the US, a brand-new trailer has dropped teasing a number of new inclusions to the film such as Darkseid, Granny Goodness and The Joker.
Ahead of its season 7 debut in early March, CW’s The Flash has also dropped a final trailer. The new season will set out to resolve the dangling threads left hanging by the prematurely shortened season six.
More on the CW Arrowverse: The Flash, Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow have all been officially renewed for 2022 seasons following their current runs. This also puts The Flash on an even footing with Arrow, which reached an impressive eight seasons.
The CW’s latest Arrowverse spinoff, Superman and Lois, has just kicked off on Binge in Australia, with episodes set to air each Thursday. The show also introduces a new actor for Lex Luthor, previously played by Jon Cryer in Supergirl. This new Luthor, who finds himself displaced from his own reality due to the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths, is played by The Vampire Diaries’ Wolé Parks.
The DCEU has found its Supergirl! Director of The Flash movie, Andy Muschietti, has shared the Zoom call where he revealed the news to Young and the Restless actress Sasha Calle, who beat out over 400 other actors who auditioned for the role.

DC Films has announced that director Angel Manuel Soto will be helming a new Blue Beetle film centred on the young teen hero Jaime Reyes. Whilst Reyes has featured in a number of animated projects across Young Justice and the DC animated universe films, this will be his character’s first live-action adaptation.
Constantine is getting a fresh TV series reboot courtesy of J. J. Abrams and writer Guy Bolton. Last year, we learned Abrams would be taking on a Justice League Dark series for HBOMax, and it appears that this latest series announcement will eventually set up and lead into that. Sadly, fan-favourite and Supanova alumnus Matt Ryan won’t be getting a look in on this one, as reports are they are looking to cast a younger Constantine living in London.
Mortal Kombat
Last month we had our first look at the official photos of the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot, now we have a trailer absolutely dripping with all the gore an avid MK fan could want. You can check out the blood-stained, adults-only trailer here.
Face/Off
Adam Wingard, director of Godzilla vs Kong, has clarified that he is planning on making a sequel, not a reboot, to 1997’s classic John Woo film Face/Off, which originally starred Nicolas Cage and Supanova alumnus John Travolta. It’s unclear at this stage whether either of the original stars are intended to return.
Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Another classic action film to get a new do-over: Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the 2005 action film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, is getting a TV series reboot courtesy of Amazon. Moreover, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Donald Glover, who first worked together on 2018’s Star Wars: Solo, have been picked to lead the series as the show’s pair of married assassins from rival organisations.
Game of Thrones
The upcoming GoT prequel series, House of the Dragon, has added a few new stars to its growing cast, including The Amazing Spider-Man’s Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best and Sonoya Mizuno. These fresh faces will be joining Doctor Who’s Matt Smith who has previously been announced as Prince Daemon Targaryen.
Star Wars
Darth Maul actor Ray Park, who last reprised the role in a surprise cameo in 2018’s Solo, has been teasing fans with more of his fan-favourite Sith Lord with shots of him getting the character’s makeup applied. There’s no official word on whether this is related to any current Star Wars project, but with filming ready to get underway on the upcoming Kenobi series, fans are going wild with speculation.

Rian Johnson, director of The Last Jedi, was originally named to direct his own Star Wars trilogy even before The Last Jedi was released in theatres. Since then, little else has been heard regarding progress on those plans, but following a new interview with USA Today writer Sariah Wilson, we now have confirmation those films will still be going ahead!
I’m just going to post this now because I can see that I’m going to get a lot of requests –
Yes, Rian’s SW trilogy is still on. No dates or timelines because he has other projects going on, but it is happening.THAT IS ALL I KNOW ABOUT IT. 😁😁😁

Dexter
Set 10 years after the original series finale, the upcoming Dexter revival starring Michael C. Hall has added Oscar Wahlberg, nephew of Mark Wahlberg, as the captain of a high-school wrestling team who somehow crosses Dexter’s path. Also joining the cast is Jamie Chung (The Gifted, Sucker Punch) who is playing a true-crime podcaster looking into Dexter’s history as the Bay Harbour Butcher.
