What a year it’s been for Cosplay! In 2016, two well-known and respected Cosplayers – Echoing Artemis and A.K. Wirru – came on board as Ambassadors to help raise the profile of Cosplay at Supanova.
Building up what is now known as the Cosplay Abassador Program, Echoing Artemis and Wirru have shared their knowledge, supported others and driven positivity in the cosplay community.
The call for new ambassadors for 2017/2018 went out in April, resulting in nearly 100 incredible cosplayers applying for the Ambassador positions and making the task of selecting only two candidates almost impossible. However two stood out in particular, and we’d like to welcome Floksy Locksy and C.B. Studios to the Supanova family!
Floksy Locksy is an Adelaide based cosplayer who has been making her own costumes since 2012. Beginning as a hobby roughly 6 years ago, she quickly fell in love with making her own costumes and started challenging herself to more and more difficult projects. She’s been a cosplay judge for Supanova for the past two years.
C.B. has been cosplaying since 2005, starting out with a basic homemade Darth Vader costume and slowly honing his skills to the point of producing quality costumes, from a wide variety of materials and techniques. He has multiple cosplay and costume wins under his belt, as well as several conventions worth of competition judging experience, including co-judging the 2014 Eurocosplay Championships at London MCM Comic-Con, and co-hosted of several panels at local conventions.
Floksy Locksy, who applied thanks to the encouragement from her friends and family, was overwhelmed at being selected. “I am still completely speechless and so honoured by this amazing opportunity offered by Supanova. Being a cosplay ambassador means the entire world to me, and I am absolutely ecstatic that I am going to be able to meet so many incredibly talented people from all around Australia and help promote the one thing which I love above anything else.”
C.B. expressed similar sentiment, expressing that he is thrilled at the prospect of getting to meet a whole host of like-minded cosplayers around Australia. “I can’t wait to see all the amazing pieces that my talented peers have created in this hobby, and get to show off a little of my creations as well!”
Echoing Artemis and Wirru will be on hand at Supanova in June, handing over the reins and to formally introduce our new ambassadors in Sydney as they learn the ropes. They’ll then commence their tenure from November 2017.
Cosplay is a powerful and passionate hobby shared by thousands of Supanova attendees every year. The Cosplay Ambassador program provides an annual opportunity for cosplayers to share their enthusiasm for their pastime with a wider audience at future events. Successful applicants have the chance to visit each host city, connect with local cosplay communities, deliver workshops and judge cosplay competitions.
