Morena Baccarin (Apologies)
Morena is too talented! We’re afraid, yet again, that we have to postpone her appearance to a later date as there’s a very good likelihood that a) the play she’s starring in, in New York, will have its season extended and b) it also looks likely the pilot she filmed, “V”, is going to be picked up meaning Morena will need to move and settle into Vancouver ASAP to prepare for her role in the series.
Therefore, after speaking with her manager, we mutually decided to withdraw her from this tour rather than risk fans booking tickets and accommodation in this economic climate when the indicators are so stacked against Morena actually making it here.
We know you understand and hope you also realise that we maintain an absolute determination to get Morena here for you when the stars come into an appropriate alignment (and hopefully with another kick-butt starring role in a sci-fi series under her belt) as we know she’s definitely worth waiting for!!!
Morena Baccarin was born in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil in 1979, but was raised in New York City. She was exposed to the world of acting at a very young age through her mother, Vera Setta, a well-known Brazilian actress who worked in TV and theatre.
In 1989, Morena and her family moved to Greenwich Village, New York. A few years later she attended the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, the High School made famous in the movie ‘Fame’ and the subsequent television series by the same name. Upon graduation, she was accepted into Manhattan’s prestigious Julliard School for the Performing Arts, and while there she was one of the subjects of the PBS series ‘American Masters’ which focused on the school and the students.
Morena landed her first film role in 2001 in the independent film ‘Perfume’, which turned a critical eye on the fashion business and the lives of those who work in it. The same year she played the lead role of Rebecca in the film ‘Way Off Broadway’, which garnered rave reviews and earned Morena the "Best Actress" award at the Wine Country Film Festival.
After a minor role in the indie film ‘Roger Dodger’ in 2002, Morena appeared in the Central Park production of ‘The Seagull’ with Natalie Portman. She also was the understudy for Portman's role.
Later the same year, she won her first television role as Inara Serra on the critically-acclaimed series ‘Firefly’. The series was cancelled after only eleven episodes were aired, but Universal Studios was so impressed with the show and the cast that they greenlit a silver-screen continuation of the story. The movie, called ‘Serenity’, opened in September 2005 to almost universal raves from critics. The same year, Morena found time to voice the character of Black Canary on the ‘Justice League Unlimited’ animated series.
Recently, Morena has been playing the grown-up version of Adria, a recurring villain in the tenth season of ‘Stargate SG-1’ as well as in the movie ‘Stargate: The Ark of Truth’.
Having collected a fantastic base of fans through her work in Firefly, Serenity and Stargate SG-1 it makes complete sense that the ABC’s re-imagined version of “V” has cast Morena as “Anna”, queen of the alien species that have invaded Earth.
