Jon Sommariva
Local boy, Jon Sommariva has been working in mainstream comics on and off since 2002. He was first discovered on the internet by writer Jay Faerber, and asked if he would like to draw a back-up story in Noble Causes. From there Jon went on to work for Darkhorse comics, most notably on Star Wars Tales, and then helping launch the Rocket comics imprint with Go Boy 7.
In 2005 Jon disappeared into the depths of the Amazon jungle in Brazil, and wasn't seen or heard of again within the local comics community. He was last heard saying "I had to go see about a girl" quoting a famous line from the classic film Good Will Hunting. During that time in Brazil he was freelancing, working for companies such as Hasbro, Disney and Upperdeck.
While away, Jon maintained a strong online presence, perhaps better known as "Red J". He is an active member of the DeviantArt community, among other comic book related forums. He has recently resurfaced in Australia, last seen walking the dry arid suburbs of Canberra. He is now working on the anticipated comic book series Gemini, published by Image comics with old time conspirator Jay Faerber (Noble Causes, Dynamo 5). Gemini launched in May 2008 with Image comics, and has been receiving very positive preview reviews from fans and critics alike. Jon will have loads of original art for show at Supanova, and is always happy to draw a sketch for you, answer questions and help out aspiring artists who hope to draw comics in the future. Jon will be appearing at the Sydney Supanova event only.
