Howard Chaykin
Born in 1950 in New Jersey but raised in East Flatbush and Brownsville a neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY. His parents were separated and he was raised by his mother and adoptive father. Started out as a gofer for the legendary artist Gil kane at 19. Which also lead him to work for Waliy Wood, Gray Morrow, Neal Adams and Byron Preiss, all of whom are greats in the field of comics. This is where he honed his skills as an artist and a writer.
Before starting to work in film and television he was one of the pioneers of the graphic novel with "Stars Be My Destination" and "Empire".He was also the artist of the comic adaptation of "Star Wars" as well as the artist of one of the Luke Skywalker movie posters for the film.
Howard has also written and consulted on TV shows such as Mutant X, Viper, Earth: Final Conflict and The Flash.
His major comics work includes series like "Dominic Fortune" for Marvel Comics, "American Flagg" & Time 2 for First Comics; The Shadow: Blood and Judgement & "Blackhawk" for DC Comics, "Power and Glory for Malibu Comics and the revolutionary "The Black Kiss" by Vertigo Comics.
He is famous for his innovative storytelling and sometimes controversial material. Chaykin's main influences are the mid-20th century book illustrators Robert Fawcett, Al Parker, and others, along with a love for jazz which is often reflected in his work.
Howard looks forward to meeting all his fans at Supanova and will be appearing at both the Sydney and Perth events Saturday and Sunday from 11.00am to 5.00pm.
