Stanislav M.I.A. as Record Numbers Attend Sydney

In another record breaking weekend that is bucking all the  economic trends, Supanova 2009 in Sydney enjoyed the patronage of 12,200 fans over 1 night and 2 days, an increase of 15% since last year.

A full report will follow later but suffice to say, except for Stanislav Ianevski's no-show (sorry Perth, we still haven't been able to make contact with him for you either), fun was had by all in what was a very exciting event!

And for just the smallest dose, check out this link as Rachelle Lefevre threw down with the AWF wrestlers!

One last note, Andrew Warrilow can now no longer attend Perth.

“Shout-Out” from Twilight’s ‘Victoria’

As excitement builds for both expos Rachelle ‘Victoria’ Lefevre who is attending our Sydney event has recorded a shout-out to say “I’m on my way!”. Check it out here.

Greg Cipes to the Rescue as Yuri & Tara Bid Adieu

Greg Cipes

As so often happens, just when you think there couldn't possibly be another curveball, you're struck by a beauty! Thankfully though there's another batter and his name is Greg Cipes! His awesome credenitals include "Kevin Leven" from Ben 10: Alien Force, "Beast Boy" from Teen Titans, "Chiro" from Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go and even movies such as Fast and Furious! Thanks for the last minute rescue Greg!

All this of course only happened because Yuri and Tara, in their own words, "miraculously... both booked work for the first week of Supanova" and even though they tried to reschedule, "they [wouldn't] budge. It's then or never and they're important jobs." We wish them the best and look forward to seeing them next time!

Anakin Skywalker Brings Balance To Supanova!

Jake Lloyd as Anakin SkywalkerWe regret to say that we've received the wonderful news that Ray Park has won a role on the TV series, Heroes, and is filming during Supanova. So while its disappointing that he can't make it we're excited that we'll be seeing more of him real soon.

In the meantime, and to keep with the 10th Anniversary theme of the Star Wars prequels beginning with The Phantom Menace, we are very pleased to announce, Jake "Anakin Skywalker" Lloyd, as our replacement guest. We really appreciate his immediate response to our S.O.S. and look forward to having him join us in Sydney and Perth.

Star Trek's Karl Urban Joins the Sydney & Perth Cast!

The many face of Karl Urban

We are Supa-pleased to announce that Karl Urban, star of such films as DOOM, Pathfinder, The Chronicles of Riddick, The Lord of the Rings, The Bourne Supremacy; and clearly New Zealands favourite son, will be joining us in Sydney and Perth! Karl has most recently been seen in the HUGE smash hit film of 2009 Star Trek, playing Dr. Leonard 'Bones' McCoy. Star Trek is showing around the country right now and Karl is without doubt a standout in the film. He looks forwards to meeting all his fans at the upcoming shows!

 New Moon Rising:
Supanova Welcomes Twilight Guests!

Twilight Guests - Rachelle and GilSupanova is very happy to announce two guests for all the Twilight fans out there.

In Sydney we are hosting the stunning Rachelle Lefevre, who plays the villainous vampire 'Victoria' in the Twilight Saga. Her character is central to the series and she is really looking forward to coming to Sydney.

For Perth Twilighters we have the charismatic, Gil Birmingham, joining us who plays the role of 'Billy Black', the Quileute Indian father of the werewolf Jacob Black. He very excited about visiting all his fans in Perth!

So whether you're in the East or the West we've got something for you at Supanova!

Good News/Bad News for Harry Potter Fans

StanislavLess than 48 hours ago we received the bad news that Matthew Lewis has been called into Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II and for PR duties leading up to the mid-July release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Fortunately, thanks to some great work behind the scenes, we were able to quickly secure Stanislav Ianevski, 'Viktor Krum' from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, as a replacement.

A Bite Sized Summary!

It's been a brilliant 2009 already, with 8,200 fans making our Melbourne expo the best one there so far, and a spectacular 15,100 fans setting a new Supanova record both in Brisbane and across the country.

We had a wonderful time bringing you the events, which included the Supanova Sneak Peek at Brisbane's Queen Street Mall, hosting the inaugural Madman National Cosplay Championships and concluding the tour with the world co-premiere of Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

Thank you all, across the board, for your awesome support. Every element is important - whether it's staff, volunteers, sponsors, guests, exhibitors or fans - and the pop culture paradise that is Supanova continues to exist thanks to your genuine love of what we're about as an event and organisation.

My heartfelt appreciation goes out to you all... see you in Sydney and Perth!

Regards,

Daniel Zachariou

What's Supanova All About?

September 2008: Believe it or not, we get asked that a lot. Some people refer to us as a Sci-Fi show, an anime event, a comic-book convention, a gaming expo and lots of other things too. Realistically we're all of the above "and then some" too!

But why believe us when so many others have chosen to tell our story for us? So in the grand tradition of pictures saying a thousand words here's a few films about us through neutral organisations and then our very own coup de grace at the end.

Enjoy and see you next year...

2008 RETROSPECTIVE

11/12/2008 And so ends the first chapter in Supanova's newly created north-south, east-west calender with nearly 40,000 fans attending across the four events in 2008. Highlights included our inaugural Melbourne and Perth events, breaking the 10,000 barrier in Sydney and Brisbane setting the standard yet again with our highest yet attendance. Special mentions include Jewel Staite being our first guest to attend all four cities, Sean Schemmel for a record enhancing sixth Supanova tour of duty and Jarod Padalecki for breaking all records as fan favourite!

We look forward to doing it all again in 2009 and thank you once more for making Supanova in 2008 a total blast!

Yours in fun,

Daniel Zachariou
Supanova Event Director
